Mind Over Matter

Are you your own worst enemy when it comes to achieving successful pregnancy weight loss?  Do your thoughts and doubts hinder your progress when you are following a weight loss plan and learning how to lose belly fat?

Lose Baby Weight specialise in weight loss for women and our experience has shown us is that your weight loss mindset is crucial to your success, or hindering your progress.  We also know that its possible to change you mindset so you reach your goals, so you live a better and healthier lifestyle, one where you feel great and are more energetic.

Negative Mental Modes

What we know at Lose Baby Weight is that before you can effectively pursue your weight loss goals you must address negative mental modes first – it’s almost impossible to initiate change and adopt a healthier lifestyle unless you worked through the things that are causing you barriers in your pursuit of health, fitness and happiness.

Do any of these sound familiar:

  • The media is constantly bombarding us with images of celebrities and female fashion models who are thin and seemingly glamourous.  Even more so a celeb or model mum who is back on the red carpet looking glamorous and trim in record time after bubs is born.  These emotive pictures can cause us to feel negative about our own weight and appearance.
  • Every time you open a magazine or paper to read there seems to be increasing awareness and focus on health problems associated with obesity and being overweight – we’ve certainly reported on these at Lose Baby Weight.  When we feel bad about our own weight, we often turn to food and eat for consolation, exacerbating our own weight issues.
  • You’ve been a yo-yo dieter, successfully losing a few kilos, and then gaining it straight back.  This is probably due to the fact you’ve focused solely on trying to shed weight, perhaps for a specific event, rather than aiming to be healthier, get fit, and have more energy for life.
  • Perhaps you tired a detox diet where it was described as ‘drop a dress size in one week’.  This type of plan usually involves only drinking juices and excludes protein from your diet.  We know that you’ll successfully lose weight but it is more than likely to be water and lean muscle rather than fat – very counter intuitive because you end up lowering your metabolic rate (the fat burning ability of the body) due to the loss of lean muscle so as soon as you stop you actually end up having increased your body fat.
  • You find yourself regularly thinking things like “I eat too much, I have no control over myself, I never stick to anything, therefore I am doomed to be overweight”.
  • You don’t feel like you have any motivation to get started.  You don’t want to be overweight, unfit, eating unhealthy foods, but you have no idea where to start, it all feels to hard, so it’s easier to take the path of least resistance and keep eating crap food.
Getting Started

Step one – address your negative mental modes!

To address your negative thoughts, your depression, your low self esteem, you must first realise that you have total control over your thoughts and actions.  The problem is not the super gorgeous model in a magazine, its not the media, its not the fact you may have yo-yo dieted int the past, its not even your lack of motivation.

The problem is that you haven’t taken ownership of your thoughts.

Sound a bit harsh?  Or sound to good to be true?  Either way its the truth.  Your thoughts are the building block of your life, they create the foundation for your future, they set you free, they liberate you.  You have to start using your mind for better outcomes, for you, for your family.

Next time you catch yourself thinking negatively, take control and change that thought.  Instead of “I have no control so I eat fattening food”, think “it is possible to change, people successfully lose weight and get fit and healthy all the time, I can do the same, imagine how good I am going to feel when I start losing weight, getting fit and healthy”.

Allow yourself to imagine how much happier you will be once you take control of your negative thoughts, of your health, of your self confidence, of your eating, of the pain you feel from being unhealthy and overweight.  Indulge in these thoughts as often as you can.  Use them to create new future.

We know you have the power to get healthy and lose the weight, to achieve your goals.

Focus on Good Health not Weight Loss

Be honest with yourself, much of the negativity and pain you are currently experiencing is related to the negative associations you have about being overweight.  So rather than focus solely on weight loss which can lead to a temporary commitment, focus on a healthier lifestyle and weight loss will be a secondary outcome.

Once you’ve taken control of your thoughts, once you’re inspired to get healthy and lose weight, take the time to seek out all the information you need about losing weight in a safe, healthy and effective way.  Find a healthy eating plan that focuses on good health and nutrition, one that will work for you, for your lifestyle, and commit to it.
